Caverna Abismal Records proudly announces Odes to the Carnivorous, the devastating second full-length by legendary Portuguese death/grind pioneers GROG is resurrected in a reissue that brings one of the country’s most visceral and defining extreme-metal releases back into the spotlight.

What if we told you that, in 2001, the original release of this album was followed by the sudden, unexplained disappearance of the label behind it, condemning the record to an undeserved fate of obscurity? An album that never received a serious promotional campaign, despite its significance to Portugal’s extreme music history. Would you believe us? Well, that is precisely what happened.
By then, Grog had already left a deep mark on the Portuguese scene with their debut album, a record that not only tore through the foundations of the national underground but also propelled the band beyond the country’s borders. Following a complete line-up overhaul, the band returned in 2001 with a new sonic incarnation: Odes to the Carnivorous.
New faces, a renewed approach, but the same determination to push brutality to its limits. The collective’s visceral essence remained intact, now elevated to new levels of technical prowess, speed and intensity. This transformation did not dilute Grog’s identity; quite the opposite, it reinforced it. Their ability to evolve without compromising their extreme nature helped cement the band’s legacy and established Odes to the Carnivorous as a significant and indispensable chapter in the history of Portuguese extreme music.

The new mix and mastering, handled by Max Tomé, amplify the impact of the original recording without stripping away its identity. The result is heavier, sharper and more brutal, preserving the sonic character of the first edition while pushing it into a new dimension. For the first time, the original lyrics are also included, allowing listeners to fully immerse themselves in the fictional universe and blood-soaked creativity of this collective. Here, too, Grog remain true to themselves: merciless, provocative and utterly uncompromising.
